In the toughest conditions growers expect their big tractor to respond, and they now have access to the most productive, powerful, proven 4-wheel drive tractor in the industry with the introduction of the new Case IH Steiger® 535 Pro.
"When you're pulling 800 bushels of seed and a 70-foot air seeder uphill, it calls for massive horsepower. That's just the type of call that the Steiger 535 Pro can answer," says Roger Lewno, Case IH marketing manager.
A new Power Boost feature allows the tractor's 15-liter engine, running at 1,800 rpm, to add 35 horsepower through a hydraulic boost and another 40 horsepower in power growth for a total of 610 available horsepower, Lewno says.
"The additional horsepower is available for your most demanding situations. And, throughout the entire working gear range of the Steiger 535 Pro, not just the low end. If you're seeding, you can maintain your ground speed and still have fan performance to deliver seed properly across the width of the implement," Lewno says.
The Power Boost feature is available as a factory installed option for the Ag version of the Steiger 535 tractor and Steiger 535 Quadtrac® models.
The specially badged Case IH Steiger 535 Pro is the most noticeable enhancement in the Steiger family, but a number of other upgrades are going to improve productivity for growers, Lewno says.
DieselSaver™
The new DieselSaver™ Auto Productivity Management (APM) system, standard on 2009 Steiger Series tractors, has been shown to reduce fuel consumption as much as 25 percent in certain operations.
A flip of the three-position toggle switch activates the system. Whether in "field" or "road" APM mode, the engine throttle handle serves as a ground speed selector. "Once the desired ground speed is attained, APM automatically adjusts engine speed and transmission ratio to provide the best balance of power and fuel economy," Lewno says. "Even less experienced operators can become more efficient with APM."
Controls and cab
"Another step we've taken to make operations more efficient is simplifying the End-of-Row function," Lewno says. "It's now a two-step process on a single switch to record and play back the end-of-row functions, with a step switch used at the headlands."
For those taking advantage of AFS AccuGuide™ autoguidance with their Steiger tractors, a new AutoSense sensor is replacing the MTS sensor cylinder. The new sensor improves steering/articulation of the tractor when autoguidance is activated for smoother more responsive movements in the field, Lewno says.
From a comfort standpoint two refinements have been made to the cab seats. A different fabric is being used on the Deluxe cab seats. The new material is more breathable and more flexible, meaning more operator comfort, has better durability and it will stand up to the daily wear and tear, Lewno says. "We're also offering a new ‘cut and sew' bucket-style deluxe seat on deluxe cab models. It's really part of a comfortable operating environment."
One final cab note, a carbon cab filter, interchangeable with the current filter, is now available for all Case IH Steiger tractors. "We're always aiming for the highest air quality possible as part of a productive working environment, and this filter reduces the odor, fine dust and pollen ingestion into the cab," Lewno says.
Adding light
Long days turn into long nights and good visibility is key to safe and productive operations. To provide additional lighting options a new high-cab-mounted High Intensity Dischard (HID) light kit is now available. "It's an easy installation and this kit improves visibility to the front of the tractor," Lewno says.
